Rooftops, car parks and golden hour: urban glamour shoots
Concrete, steel and a city skyline make a brilliant contrast with soft skin and a strong outfit. Some of my best glamour and fitness sets were shot on a rooftop car park in Brisbane at the end of the day.
Why urban locations work
Most creator content is shot in bedrooms. That's exactly why a rooftop or a car park stands out. The hard, industrial background makes the person in the frame look softer, stronger and more striking at the same time.
It suits a lot of niches: fitness creators, streetwear and edgy looks, leather and latex, or anyone who wants their feed to feel more like a magazine.
The secret: off camera flash
Car parks have terrible light. Flat fluorescent tubes, green tints, dark corners. That's why I bring my own. A portable strobe placed off to the side carves out shape, separates you from the background and adds the drama that makes these sets work. With the light under control, the location becomes a backdrop instead of a problem.
Timing the shoot
Rooftops are best in the last hour or two before sunset. The sky does half the work, the concrete warms up in the low sun, and the city lights start to switch on behind you. A quick change into a darker look as the sun drops gives you a whole second set.
If concrete isn't your thing, the same golden hour works in open fields and long grass just outside the city, for a softer, more romantic feel.
Looks that suit urban sets
- Activewear and fitness sets with real movement
- Leather, denim and boots
- A tailored blazer with nothing much underneath
- Bold colour that pops against grey concrete
Safety and privacy
We pick quiet levels at quiet times, keep looks appropriate for a public place, and move anything more revealing to a private location. I scout every spot beforehand and keep an eye on traffic and people throughout. Your comfort comes first, every time.

Quick answers
Is it legal to shoot in a public car park?
Swimwear, activewear and fashion looks are fine in most public places, but some car parks are private property, so we choose locations where shooting is allowed and keep revealing looks for private spaces.
What time should we shoot?
The last one to two hours before sunset gives the best light and the quietest locations.
